Surfing the net to source products and services could not be easier, but it pays to remain vigilant and be aware of internet fraud.
What is it and what does it do? Phishing is a criminal activity and a way of fraudulently acquiring sensitive information, user names, passwords and credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy company like a bank that you may recognise and not instinctively or have reason to think may be suspicious.
Phishing is typically conducted through email and often instructs users to enter or confirm sensitive information by following a link to a website which for all intent and purposes looks like the genuine article but is really just an elaborate front for a phishing site.
Our security - your peace of mind: more information
If you receive an unsolicited email or you feel it might not be genuine contact the company direct by phone using the normal channels to be on the safe side.
If you use internet explorer you can check any suspicious sites by selecting tools located near to the address bar, then Phishing Filter. From there you can either request the site you are viewing to be checked or report what you believe maybe suspicious - our recommendation would be to turn the filter on and let the provider check all the sites you choose to visit for true peace of mind.
